General Francis Nash Chapter Meeting
The Colonial Inn, Hillsborough, NC153 W King St, Hillsborough, NC 27278, USAJim Steeg The next General Francis Nash Chapter luncheon meeting will be December 2, at the Colonial Inn in Hillsborough. Our special guest, Jim Steeg, will be sharing leadership lessons from his experiences in the National Football League. Jim spent more than 35 years with the National Football League (NFL) running business operations for the Miami Dolphins, then heading the NFL’s Special Events Department, where he was in charge of 26 Super Bowls, including the memorable 2002 Super Bowl XXXVI, which followed the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the U.S., and featured former and then-current players reading excerpts from the Declaration of Independence, and four former Presidents and a former First Lady reciting parts of Abraham Lincoln’s speeches. Performers before or during the game included Mary J. Blige, Marc Anthony, the Boston Pops orchestra, Paul McCartney, Mariah Carey, and U2, all patriotic-themed. The St. Louis Rams, 14-point favorites, lost to the New England Patriots, 17-20, at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans. It was the first Super Bowl to be designated a National Special Security Event, as have all subsequent Super Bowls. (The game is also notable as the beginning of the Brady – Belichick – Patriots dynasty, and the last game broadcast by Pat Summerall and John Madden.) Jim is widely recognized as the individual most responsible for growing the Super Bowl into the most popular one-day sporting event in the world.
More recently, he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the San Diego Chargers. Building upon this experience, he continues a Sports Management and Media Consulting activity. Jim is a graduate of Miami (Ohio) University and received his MBA from Wake Forest. Jim has lectured and taught at several universities, including UNC-Chapel Hill, NC State, Duke, and Wake Forest. He and his wife, Jill, recently relocated from San Diego to North Carolina.
Please RSVP to Chapter President Al Segars. A menu with food choices will be available when you arrive at the Colonial Inn.
2026 National Congress Medals ordered by GFN members will also be available for pickup.

250th Anniversary of the Boston Tea Party
Across the United States of AmericaUnited StatesWhereas the Boston Tea Party is a seminal event in the history of the founding of these United States of America, and
Whereas the nature of this event enacted by American Colonists, generally known as the “Sons of Liberty”, was in defiance of the tax on tea which was seen unlawful as “taxation without representation,” and
Whereas it is with the spirit and mission of the Compatriots of our great organization to join with our patriotic brothers and sisters in a ceremonial act of independence, and
Whereas, thanks to the sacrifices of our patriot ancestors, we have the liberty to join with others in the ceremonial “Destruction of Tea” as a sign of solidarity with those patriot ancestors.
I, John Dodd, President General of the Sons of the American Revolution do Proclaim Saturday, December 16, 2023, the 250th Anniversary of the Boston Tea Party, as a time of celebration for every patriotic American, and encourage every patriot to assemble with other patriots and at 8:00 PM Boston time join in unison to “destroy tea” as our Patriot Ancestors did 250 years before, be that by imbibing, sharing, or tossing of tea, as the case may be, and general merrymaking.
