Our 242 year journey as the United States of America brings us to an unprecedented time to honor Revolutionary War Patriots in their final resting place at historic Centre Presbyterian Church, 129 Centre Church Rd., Mooresville, NC 28117.
The Centre Patriots program is a unique program by the Mecklenburg chapter, North Carolina SAR, to raise the funds to build a monument that honors the Patriots buried at the church.
Centre Presbyterian Church is one of the “Seven Sisters” Presbyterian churches organized in and around Charlotte, NC, between 1756 and 1770. Centre Presbyterian Church has a long history of service in the Mooresville area and played an integral part in the founding of Davidson College.
One of the Church’s greatest contributions, however, came during the Revolutionary War. General William Davidson, hero of the Battle of Cowan’s Ford and the man from whom both Davidson College and Davidson, NC, get their names, was a member of the Centre Church congregation.
Within the Centre Church Cemetery, there are represented over 35 men who left the comfort of their homes in order to secure the blessings of freedom that we enjoy today, a remarkable number for a small congregation in the Carolina backcountry.
The church will be serving a breakfast beginning at 9:15am and everybody is invited to join for great food and fellowship. The indoor service begins at 10:00am with our very special guest speaker, award-winning author and Revolutionary War historian P. Anthony (Tony) Zeiss, Ed. D. Following the indoor service, we will all proceed outdoors for the wreath presentations and the honors to all Patriots.
