The Sandhills SAR Chapter invites all to join us for a day of living history to honor the 241st Anniversary of the attack at The Alston House, or The House in the Horseshoe. Living history displays on 18th Century life as well as scheduled demonstrations will occur throughout the day.
The Keynote Speaker for the SAR ceremony will be Chris Grimes, Senior Vice President NC Society, Sons of the American Revolution. In addition to his SAR duties, Chris is a Historical Interpreter, Mariner’s Museum, Newport News, VA and a Living Historian/Reenactor with a focus on 18th and 19th century medicine, navy and artillery.
The event will be in person, on Saturday August 6th at 10:00 am.
The site will have scheduled demonstrations during the day and tours of the Alston House. A reenactment of the battle will occur at 2:00 PM. There will be no events on Sunday.
If you would like to present a wreath on site, that is very much appreciated and the opportunity is scheduled into the event planning.

The Summer BOM Meeting will be held at the North Carolina State University Club, 4200 Hillsborough St, Raleigh, NC 27606. With concerns over COVID-19, there is ample space to spread out to maintain social distancing. Face masks are encouraged and there will be ample hand sanitizer available. Please RSVP by Monday, August 15. For those attending in person, lunch will be a Deli meat and cheese buffet.

The New Bern Chapter-SAR, Richard Dobbs Spaight Chapter-DAR, Christ Episcopal Church, North Carolina History Center at Tryon Palace, St. Johns Masonic Lodge #3 and the National Sojourners, Inc. invite all to join us for a commemoration ceremony to honor the 248th Anniversary Observance of the 1st North Carolina Provincial Congress and signing of the New Bern Resolves, which was held in New Bern during 25-27 August 1774.
The Keynote Speaker for the ceremony will be Sarah Koonts, NC State Archivist, NC Office of Archives and History.
The event will be in person, Saturday August 27th. Check-in will begin at 8:30 a.m. across the street from the Centenary United Methodist Church parking lot located next to the US District Court House at 413 Middle St, New Bern, NC 28560.
The event procession will begin at 9:45 a.m. at the Centenary United Methodist Church parking lot.
The Ceremony will begin at approximately 10:00 a.m. at the (outdoor) Colonial Chapel of Christ Episcopal Church, 320 Pollock Street New Bern NC, 28560.
There will be a STATIC ONLY (no color guard or Greetings/Wreath Presentation options) Zoom session for anyone wishing to view the procession and ceremony.
