    Patriot William Battle Grave Marking

    2:00 PM-3:00 PM
    April 29, 2017
11901 Cooper Rd, Nashville, NC 27856, USA

The Halifax Resolves Chapter NC SAR will conduct a Patriot grave marking for William Battle on Saturday, April 29th, 2017 at 2:00pm.  The grave is located at 11901 Cooper Road, Nashville, NC 27856.

William Battle was born about 1758, most likely in Northampton County, North Carolina, the son of William and Mary Battle. His parents lived first in Edgecombe (now Nash) County, later moved to Northampton County, but moved back to Nash County about the time of the American Revolution, where William Battle (the father) died about 1785.

Little is known of William Battle’s early life, but he married, circa 1785, Mary Ann Williams of Halifax County, North Carolina, daughter of John Williams. William and Mary Ann Battle had nine children.

William Battle’s service to the Revolutionary cause is clearly documented in various pay vouchers dating between 1781 and 1783, which reimbursed him for patriot service. He is a proven patriot on both the SAR and the DAR rosters, and more than 70 ladies have joined the DAR through their lineage from him.
