New Bern Chapter Celebrates George Washington’s Birthday
On Saturday 22nd, the New Bern Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, celebrated George Washington’s birthday at the New Bern Country Club, with a social time, dinner, educational presentation by Judge Ken McCotter, and door prizes. This year there were 54 attendees, 14 more than last year, with a number of new faces, especially from out of town. Those special guests in attendance were:
• Connye Dillon, Regent of the Major Reading Blount DAR Chapter in Washington, N, and two other members of that Chapter. Ms Dillion also recruited her son Brian for becoming a member of the SAR.
• Kathy Benedict, DAR member of Joseph Montfort Chapter and Past Senior VP of the NC Society of the Children of the American Revolution. Ms Benedict’s son Davis, also in attendance, is currently the State Treasurer of the NC CAR and has been nominated to be the next Vice President.
• Deborah Walker, Senior Vice President of Eleanor Wilson Society of the CAR in Charlotte and also a DAR member of the Vesuvius Furnace Chapter in Denver. Also attending was Ms Walker’s son Joshua Stacey, a member of the Mecklenburg Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.
• Rosie Wood, Librarian of the DAR Richard Dobbs Spaight Chapter in New Bern. Ten members of the Richard Dobbs Spaight Chapter were also in attendance.
• Kathy Morrison, First Vice President of the New Bern Historical Society.
• Tim Harris, the Lodge Steward, for St. John’s Masonic Lodge #3.
• And 17 members/new recruits, of the New Bern Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.
An enjoyable evening was had by all.
