The Halifax Resolves Chapter, North Carolina Sons of the American Revolution has recognized Lt. Steven Neil Casey of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Department with the award of the SAR Law Enforcement Commendation Medal.  The medal is intended to recognize exceptional service or accomplishment in the field of law enforcement. Eligibility is not limited to peace officers but extends to the entire range of persons who make and enforce the law to include but not limited to peace officers, attorneys, judges, prosecutors and legislators who have performed an exceptional act or service beyond that normally expected.

Lieutenant Casey began his career as a law enforcement officer in 2009 as a third generation officer following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. From the start of his career, Lieutenant Casey was never a deputy that needed to be persuaded to do his job. Steven was born to serve the citizens. During his high school days, Steven joined the Scotland Neck Fire Department where he’s been loyal not only to the department but the community as well. It didn’t take long for Steven to realize his passion was law enforcement. After a brief stint with the Halifax County EMS, Steven was hired as a deputy and began working hard as always and serving the citizens of Halifax County. During his career as a deputy, Steven has been promoted through the ranks as a Corporal, Sergeant and Lieutenant, the position in which he holds today. He is always early when it comes to reporting to work and has been one volunteering his time. When the deputies were deployed to other communities to help in times of need, such as hurricane Florence, Lt. Casey was the first to volunteer and ask to help. His leadership qualities led to his promotions and K9 Torro being assigned. K9 Torro and Lieutenant Casey team up as partners and have been a dynamic team serving Halifax County and the great State of North Carolina for nearly two years now. Halifax Resolves chapter member Ken Wilson made the presentation.
