On 8 October, Robert (Gerry) Strickland, Jr of New Bern, was inducted into the Sons of the American Revolution. The induction took place inside the “Commission House”, formerly known as the Lehman-Duffy House, on the Tryon Palace grounds. Gerry’s Patriot Ancestor is Enos Bizzell of NC, who served at the rank of Private for a period of three (3) years during the American Revolution. Enos Bizzell’s known service was in Sept 1777 in the 10th NC Regiment, then again in Sept 1778 under Col John Patten, in the 2nd NC Regiment, which was led by Capt John Craddock.
Gerry Strickland also volunteer’s as a member of the Tryon Palace’s “NC Continental Line”. The first regiments of the NC Continental Line were authorized by the Continental Congress in 1775. Regiments of the Line fought with George Washington at Brandywine, Monmouth and Stony Creek. They wintered and endured with him at Valley Forge.
