Lessons In Leadership
The General Francis Nash Chapter held its final meeting of 2023 on December 2 at the beautifully decorated Colonial Inn in Hillsborough. NC SAR President Steve Van Pelt updated the Chapter on the State Society, and then the group was treated to a presentation and Q & A with retired NFL Executive Jim Steeg.
Jim Steeg spent more than 35 years with the National Football League, first running business operations for the Miami Dolphins, where he received a Super Bowl VII Ring for the team’s undefeated season. He then headed the NFL’s Special Events Department, where he was in charge of 26 Super Bowls, and, more recently, served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the San Diego Chargers. Building upon this experience, he continues work at Steeg Sports Management and Media Consulting. He and his wife, Jill, recently relocated from San Diego to Chapel Hill.
Jim recounted his experiences with cranky celebrities, misbehaving players, gate crashers, hazardous turf, fake tickets, bomb threats, chemical agent threats, and what he considered the hardest game to produce, Super Bowl XXXVI, following the September 11, 2001, attacks. His efforts were emblematic of the resilience and determination of the American People.
A lively Q & A session followed, led by Lowell Hoffman.
In other Chapter Business, Ralph Nelson, Guy Guidry, Jeremy Hodges, and Al Segars were presented with Bronze America 250 Medals by Chapter Secretary Denny Colvin.
Eight of the 2026 Congress Medals ordered by members were picked up, the remaining orders will be at the next meeting, or shipping can be arranged.
