Chartered 21 April 1928 in Asheville, North Carolina, and is the oldest active chapter in Western North Carolina.

John Roper has transferred in from Georgia. This gives us 91 primary and 2 dual members for a total of 93 members with others somewhere in the pipeline waiting to be approved. Chapter Color Guard members Garry Linton & Craig Issacson will represent our chapter at the 4th of July Parade in Boone, North Carolina. We have four more Grave Marking Ceremonies scheduled as follows:

September 17th Brick Church Cemetery, Leicester, NC, Patriot Jacob Duckett; October 7th Pisgah Forest, NC, Patriot Lambert Clayton; October 21st Mills River, NC, Patriot William Bryson, and November 4th Henderson County, NC, Patriot James Andrew Miller.

JROTC Bronze Awards were given to eight students (who were mentioned in a previous Chapter’s news article). Lance Dickinson joined President Greene in presenting a Ten-Year Member Award to Ron Chapman.

Chapter Historian Ken Welgarz offered to open and manage a Facebook Page for our Chapter. It was welcomed and approved.

Guest Speaker Jack McMahan a retired Owen Middle School History Teacher and former Buncombe County Teacher of the Year presented his comments on “Teaching Today’s Students about the American Revolution.” He also shared a brief bio of his own Patriot Ancestor.

It is easy to see that the Blue Ridge Chapter is an active, energetic busy chapter that is always looking for new members to help us reach our challenging goals for the recognition of the sacrifices our Patriots made for us to enjoy the freedoms we have today.
