A 30×48″ Oil Painting of the Signing of the Halifax Resolves on April 12, 1776,  by renowned artist Dan Nance, was commissioned by NC SAR as a lasting gift to the American People, as part of the state’s hosting of the 2026 SAR Annual Congress.  The painting will reside in the Halifax Visitors Center for the next year.

#1 of a series of signed 12×18″ prints was presented to SAR President General Michael J. Elston during the Semiquincentennial Celebration in Halifax.

On April 12, 1776, the delegates to the North Carolina 4th Provincial Congress, meeting in Halifax County, North Carolina, unanimously adopted a resolution empowering North Carolina’s delegates to the Continental Congress in Philadelphia to vote for independence. The “Halifax Resolves” were the first official action by a colony calling explicitly for independence.
