Halifax Resolves Chapter Charter Member Remembered

The Halifax Resolves Chapter partnered with the Albemarle Chapter to remember Dr. Cleveland M. Hawkins, Ph.D. at West Lawn Cemetery in Elizabeth City on November 5th.  Compatriot Hawkins was a charter member of the Halifax Resolves, its first secretary and second chapter president.  He later served as the Region 1 Vice President.  Dr. Hawkins was instrumental in the formation of the Albemarle Chapter in Edenton.

Halifax Resolves Chapter President Ken Wilson served as the Master of Ceremonies assisted by NCSSAR Sr. VP and Albemarle Chapter Chaplain Chris Grimes.  Greetings were brought by VP Grimes and Region 1 VP Steve Avent. Memories of Compatriot Hawkins were shared by Compatriots Ken Wilson, Chris Grimes, and Sam Powell.  Compatriot Hawkins’ wife, Doris, was presented with a posthumous award to Cleveland of a Chapter Distinguished Service Medal and a Silver Roger Sherman Medal by Sr. VP Chris Grimes.

Wreath presenters were Halifax Resolves Chapter VP Geoff Pittard, NCSSAR Sr. VP Chris Grimes, Region 1 VP Steve Avent, Alamance Battleground Chapter Past President Dr. Sam Powell, and la Marquis de Lafayette Chapter Past President Steve Pittard.

A post ceremony reception was held at the Albemarle Lanes in Elizabeth City.
