New Bern SAR and DAR Chapters Co-Host Grave Marking

The New Bern Chapter – NC SAR and the Richard Dobbs Spaight Chapter – DAR co-hosted a hybrid grave marking ceremony for Patriot Maj Isaac Guion (P-171654) at the Cedar Grove Cemetery, 808 George Street, New Bern, NC 28560 (35.111244N, -77.0437764W) on Saturday, 30 October 2021, 1100-1200. The Honorable Ken McCotter, Jr. (a Sixth Great Grandson of Patriot Guion) made a biographical presentation which noted that Maj Guion served as a Revolutionary War Surgeon, Commissary to General George Washington, Representative to the Third NC Provincial Congress, Legislator and Councilor of State and a Master Mason of St. Johns Masonic Lodge #3. The ceremony was well-attended by members of the SAR, DAR, CAR, Masons, Questers and a combined NC Society Color Guard led by NC SAR Color Guard Commander SMSgt George Strunk, USAF (Ret). The attendees included RADML Jay DeLoach, USN (Ret), President, NC SAR; SMSgt George Strunk, USAF (Ret), President, George Washington Chapter & NC SAR Color Guard Commander; Sims Wayt, Regent, Richard Dobbs Spaight Chapter-DAR; Kathleen Benedict, Sr. President, NC CAR; Davis Benedict, President, NC CAR; Nancy Mansfield, President, Earl of Craven Chapter, Questers; and Tim Harris, St. John’s Masonic Lodge #3.
