Patriot Francis Timberlake Honored

The Halifax Resolves Chapter of the North Carolina Sons of the American Revolution and the Shocco Creek Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution joined together to mark the grave of Patriot Francis Timberlake.

Master of Ceremonies Ken Wilson, Past President of the North Carolina Sons of the American Revolution welcomed the participants and Family members to the ceremony.  The Invocation was given by Mr. Renny Taylor, Acting Chaplain of the Halifax Resolves Chapter.

The Combined NC SAR Color Guard presented the Colors.  Ms. Penny McGhee Vice Regent of the Shocco Creek Chapter NSADR led the Pledge of Allegiance. NC SAR Color Guard Commander SMSgt. George K. Strunk, USAF (ret.), led the SAR Chorus and the gathering in singing the National Anthem.

The SAR Pledge was led by Mr. William H. Riggan, III.

Greetings were given from Halifax Resolves Chapter President Mr. Geoff Pittard; Rear Admiral Jay A. DeLoach, USN (ret.), President of the North Carolina Sons of the American Revolution; Ms. Penny McGhee, Vice Regent, Shocco Creek Chapter NSDAR; Ms. Jane Hogan, Chaplain NC DAR and Mr. Harvey Satterwhite, Commander American Legion Post 52, Franklinton.

Family Spokesperson and 4th g-granddaughter of Francis Timberlake, Ms. Marsha Collier spoke briefly about the Patriot and his accomplishments.

The SAR Patriot marker was dedicated by Mr. Ken Wilson and Mr. Renny Taylor.

Wreathes were presented by the Halifax Resolves Chapter, NC SAR, NCSDAR, the General George Washington Chapter NC SAR, the New Bern Chapter NC SAR, the Raleigh Chapter NC SAR, the Caswell-Nash Chapter NSDAR, the Micajah Pettaway – Halifax Resolves Chapter NSDAR and American Legion Post 52.

Closing remarks were made by Mr. Wilson followed by the SAR Recessional.  The Colors were then retired by the Combined NC SAR Color Guard.

Acting Chaplain Mr. Renny Taylor gave the Benediction after which the gathering was dismissed.
