Honor Guard enters

The Le Marquis de Lafayette, Lumber River, and General Francis Nash Chapters conducted a Grave Marking for Private William McConkey Townsend in Lumberton on October 11.  He served as a private in Captain John Willis’ Company, Wilmington District, North Carolina Militia.  His descendant, John Sims Townsend, Jr., and wife, Barbi, flew in from California for the ceremony.  Inclement weather threatened, but did not disturb the celebration.

In addition to the sponsoring NC SAR chapters, NC SAR SE Region VP Michael Aycock, and representatives from the George Washington Chapter, VA SAR, Richmond Chapter, VA SAR, General Davie Chapter, DAR, Colonel Thomas Robinson Chapter, DAR, Liberty Point Chapter, DAR, and Isham Blake Society, N.C.S.C.A.R., were in attendance.  The ceremony was organized by Lorance Lisle, a member of George Washington Chapter, VA SAR, and General Francis Nash Chapter, NC SAR.
