Elias Wins Halifax Resolves SAR Brochure Contest
Madison B. Elias, an eighth grade student at Chaloner Middle School, was recently selected as the winner of the Halifax Resolves NC SAR Chapter winner of the Americanism Brochure Contest. This contest requires the student to design a brochure that supports one of the five Founding Documents of the United States. Madison’s entry was in support of the United States Constitution. For her efforts with this project, Madison received a winner’s certificate and a check for $100.00. Mr. Jamie Rook, her Social Studies teacher, received a Certificate of Appreciation and a check for $50.00. J. Evan Spicer was awarded an Honorable Mention for her entry and Social Studies teacher Mrs. Barbara Wyatt received a Certificate of Appreciation for her help with the contest. Presentations were made by Ken Wilson of the Halifax Resolves Chapter NC SAR.
Madison’s brochure will now advance to the state contest to be conducted May 19th at the Patriot’s Day ceremony at Alamance Battleground.
Chaloner Middle School eighth grade students from Mr. Jamie Rook and Mrs. Barbara Wyatt’s Social Studies classes submitted 71 brochures, to date the largest number of chapter entries in North Carolina.
