Ellen F. Doutre` Burgess, a senior at Roanoke Rapids High School, was selected as the winner of the Halifax Resolves NC SAR chapter level George S. and Stella M. Knight Essay Contest.  Miss Burgess received an Olympic style medal and winner’s certificate along with a check for $100.00.  The presentation was made by Halifax Resolves Chapter President Ken Wilson during Ellen’s Honors History class, taught by Mr. Seth Warren.  Also present was RRHS Principal Mrs. Tammie Williams and Asst. Principal Mr. Carl Waden.  The winning essay, entitled “Leaders of the British Resistance”, will now be sent to the state level of competition for consideration.
