The Color Guard in the Sons of the American Revolution serves as a means to involve our members in the activities of the Society, especially younger ones. They add a note of color and bearing to our celebrations, both public and private, and attract the attention of the general public to the activities of the Society.
The Color Guard is used in ceremonies to open and close meetings of the SAR, DAR, C.A.R. and other organizations. They participate in parades, memorial services and grave markings. They bring favorable publicity to the SAR with their colorful flags, attractive uniforms and colonial style music. The Color Guard is organized on the state society and/or chapter level. North Carolina fields a “combined Color Guard” made up of men from several chapters who assemble just like the minutemen.

$100 Reimbursement for Revolutionary War era Outfits
On February 1, 2020, the NC SAR Board of Managers voted to approve a $100 financial incentive to help rebuild the Color Guard of the North Carolina Society. The objectives of this initiative were threefold: (1) to encourage as many Compatriots to invest in a Revolutionary War era uniform or outfit and participate in Color Guard events or SAR-related activities; (2) create a Color Guard unit of 4-5 members in each Chapter capable of performing local Color Guard events or giving presentations/awards at local schools or community events; and (3) creating sufficient number of Color Guardsmen across the State who could be called upon by the State Color Guard Commander or his Adjutants to perform at State and National events.
Requirements: (1) Compatriot acquires a complete Revolutionary War era uniform or outfit for the first time. (2) Participates in a Color Guard function or other SAR-related activity (i.e., giving an award, giving a presentation, manning a recruiting table, etc.) wearing the RW era uniform or outfit. (3) Verified with a signature from your Chapter President, Vice President, or Color Guard Commander using the form below.
