In its first meeting of 2023, on February 4 at the Colonial Inn in Hillsborough, the General Francis Nash Chapter heard, “Everything You Should Have Learned in High School About The Declaration of Independence” from Courtney Smith, Exhibits and Programs Coordinator for the Orange County Historical Museum in Hillsborough.

Ms. Smith presented an animated, informative, and enjoyable look at the seminal document in the nation’s founding.  From the context of when (hostilities were already well underway), why (not a call to arms, but a “Dear John” letter to King George), and what (Jefferson weaved themes from the “Age of Enlightenment” throughout), the Declaration was presented in a new light, and in the end, translated to “modern” language.
