Sandhills Chapter Washington’s Birthday Observance

The Sandhills Chapter observed Washington’s Birthday by holding a special program that presented a spy network that was established around New York and Long Island to collect and communicate British attack plans to the Continental Army. This spy ring developed after the disastrous battle of Long Island and Manhattan. It is based on the same material as the TV series “Turn”.  It traced the activity of the spy ring that was so deep and secretive that the details were not discovered until the 1930’s, when someone stumbled on some old family papers.

This meeting had exceptional turnout with attendees from; the Alfred Moore DAR Chapter, the Vietnam Veterans Association – Chapter 966, interested public, and Compatriots and Associates of the Sandhills SAR Chapter,.
