On April 17, six members of the New Bern Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) Chapter, participated as judges for the Americanism Poster Contest at AH Bangert Elementary School in Trent Woods. This year’s theme was “Revolutionary War person or people”. Judges evaluated eight posters from Mrs. Sara Wilkinson’s 5th grade class and 18 posters from Mrs. Kimberly Cromer’s 3rd grade class. The top winner was 3rd grader, Hayden Greenlaw, who received a certificate and won $100 in cash. His teacher, Mrs. Cromer, also received a certificate and $50 in cash. Hayden’s poster featured drawings and historical information on Captain John Paul Jones of the Continental Navy. Hayden’s poster will now go on to the NCSSAR State competition in May.
