The Halifax Resolves Chapter NC SAR recently conducted its annual George S. and Stella M. Knight Essay Contest. This contest pertains to events leading up to and including the Revolutionary.  The student must write an essay 800-1200 words in length with a minimum of five sources of which only two can be internet sources.

This year the chapter received an astounding 40 entries, 30 from the Roanoke Rapids HS AP History class and 10 from the Nash Central HS AP History class. At the completion of the judging only six points separated first place and tenth place.  Within these top ten essays there were three tied scores.

Morgan Davis of Roanoke Rapids HS was the winner. She received an Olympic style medal, a chapter level winners certificate and a check for $100.00.  Her essay, The Intolerable Acts, will be submitted to the state level contest for consideration.  The winner of the state contest will be announced sometime before the April 6th NC SAR Annual Meeting in Hickory, NC.

The Chapter Honorable Mentions from Roanoke Rapids HS were: Adalaina Miles, Caitlin Allen, Hannah L. Golden, Blair Bracey and Cassidy Goff. AP History teacher Mr. Henry Bridgers received a Certificate of Appreciation for his support of the essay contest.
