Recognition and Dedication Ceremony

October 1, 2022

The Colonel Alexander Erwin Chapter SAR cordially invites your chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution to attend the 242th anniversary of the fording of the Catawba River at Greenlee Ford during the campaign to the Battle of Kings Mountain. SAR, DAR, C.A.R. and other patriotic and lineage societies and chapters are invited to participate in a formal wreath-laying ceremony at Greenlee Ford. Participants presenting a wreath must deliver it to Kevin Allec, Color Guard Commander of the Col. Alexander Erwin Chapter NCSSAR, no later than 9:30 AM on Saturday October 1, 2022. Continental, militia or period attire is encouraged.

Please complete and return the registration form provided no later than Saturday, September 23rd for the registration to be included in the printed program. Registration forms should be returned to: Kevin Allec, 1092 Mast Hook Way, Morganton NC, 28655 or email –  

Location of Greenlee Ford: Judges Riverside Restaurant (old location), 128 Greenlee Ford Road, Morganton, NC 28655. The program activities will be in the parking lot at the beginning of the Morganton Greenway.

Saturday, October 1, Schedule

9:30 AM: Deadline for delivery of wreaths to Kevin Allec
10:00 AM: Welcome, Introduction of Guests, Speakers and Presentations.
11:00 AM: Wreath Laying Ceremony and Mourning at Arms Ceremony by the Sons of the American Revolution, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Over Mountain Victory Trail Association
11:30 PM Fording the Catawba River by the Overmountain Victory Trail Marchers & Guests Commemoration Ceremony.

12:00 PM – 5:00 PM: Charles McDowell House Rev War Days Activities and events

Time & Date

October 1, 2022 formal presentation to begin at 10 AM to 12 PM. Please arrive early to allow for wreath placement and to obtain seating prior to the start.

The Colonel Alexander Erwin Chapter invite you to the dedication of Crossing Monument at Greenlee Ford. Leaving the Colonel Charles McDowell house and fording the Catawba River was the prelude to the Battle of Kings Mountain.
