Family Visit to Veteran’s Home in Kinston, NC

On November 26, 2015, Thanksgiving Day, Gary Gillette, SAR New Bern Chapter, Vice President and Registrar, and his extended family was able to share a moment of thanks during a visit to the Veteran’s Home in Kinston, North Carolina. Gary’s grandchildren brought with them 57 letters of thanks from their school in Tampa, Florida. The fifth grade students from the Rolland Park International Bachelorette school, scripted letters of thanks to be distributed on Thanksgiving by fellow students Cade and Chase Danielson (Gary’s grandsons). Both Cade and Chase have a special place in their hearts for all military veterans. Their great grandfather, Glen Gillette, was a double, purple heart recipient in WWII, their grandfather, Gary Gillette, is a Vietnam veteran and their father, Major Scott Danielson, is currently a 19 year veteran in the United States Marine Corps Cade and Chase have experienced first hand how much these veterans sacrifice on a daily basis for our country and wanted to let these veterans know how much they are appreciated, and that they have not been forgotten. Included below is a picture of Cade and Chase with Mr Pope, a WWII veteran currently residing at the Home, and also a picture of just one of the many personal letters distributed to the Vets on Thanksgiving.
