The Mecklenburg chapter, North Carolina SAR, participated with the Cabarrus Black Boys Chapter, North Carolina DAR, in a rededication ceremony for a historic DAR Memorial Fountain in Concord, NC.
“This particular DAR memorial fountain was originally built and dedicated in 1912 in front of the Cabarrus County courthouse, which was built in 1876,” said Jay Joyce, president of the Mecklenburg chapter, SAR. “The fountain had fallen into ill repair and a public/private initiative was established in late 2014 to restore and rebuild the fountain.”
The public/private initiative raised more than $25,000 for the fountain to be restored. Approximately 110 DAR, SAR, community leaders and general public attended the fountain rededication ceremony.
